February 14th - Marguerite Hughes - 'Growing Plants from Seed'

Marguerite is a well-known Lancastrian horticulturist, broadcaster & experienced garden speaker. She will entertain us with her wisdom and demonstration skills. She will give a topical talk on taking cuttings to boost our numbers of flowers and shrubs. She will show us how to collect and save seed to propagate for next year and she will also bring a selection of lovely plants for sale.

March 13th - Pip Smith Landscape Designer - Drought Resilience in plants

Pip Smith is a Landscape Designer with over 13 years’ experience working as a professional horticulturist. Formally the head Gardener at several private and public gardens, most recently at the highly acclaimed Wollerton Old Hall in Shropshire. Instagram @pipsmith.design

April 10th Emily Chandler- Head gardener Dunham Massey-‘The Gardens at Dunham Massey’

Emily has been Head Gardener at Dunham Massey for nearly ten years. She was trained at Ness Botanic Gardens and Birmingham Botanic Gardens and Glasshouses. A self-confessed plant fanatic, Emily’s current obsessions include Salvia and Begonia.

May 8th Gordon Bailie- Arley – ‘A Garden for All Seasons’

Gordon, as head Gardener at Arley Hall for the past 15 years, will talk about what they do in each season and what goes on behind the scenes in the gardens.

June 12th Summer outing to be confirmed (not covered by the membership fee - extra cost to include refreshments and cost of visit)

July 10th - Maureen Little - ‘TO SCARBOROUGH FAIR – AND BEYOND’ (Culinary Herbs)

Find out about how to grow and use some common and more unusual culinary herbs. Feel, smell and taste a range of herbs from Basil to Winter Savory - and lots in between!

August 14th Ken Black Clematis for year-round colour in your garden

Ken’s presentation will offer some basic information about clematis including family groupings, where they come from and their history. Followed by a practical demonstration on planting, growing, feeding, and pruning. He will also discuss pests and diseases and then demonstrate various ways of propagating clematis. All followed by questions from and discussion with the audience. He hopes to bring along plants for sale.

September 11th Ingrid Millington of Hillview Hardy Plants Ltd – Colour in the Garden with Bulbs throughout the Year

Hillview are holders of the National Plant Collections of Acanthus and Albuca. They specialise in rare and unusual herbaceous, with a particularly large ranges of Auricula and Canna. They are also RHS Gold Medallists.

October 9th Neil and Margaret Holding will talk about Norley Bank Farm and garden

Following our delightful visit last summer, Neil and Margaret have kindly agreed to talk to us about their two-acre garden at Norley Bank Farm. It features long borders of perennials, annuals and shrubs, which wrap around a traditional 17th century Cheshire farmhouse.

November 13th Katie Lowe -fruit tree pruning Norton Priory

Learn the theory behind pruning your orchard trees with Katie Lowe from Heathfield Orchards.

December 11th - Join us for a talk by Andrew Bonhill of the Woodland Trust who will talk about the importance of trees, the work of the Woodland Trust in general and the Frodsham Woods site in particular.

We will also celebrate the festive season with mince pies and mulled wine
